Wispr Flow alternative for Mac

Glide vs Wispr Flow

Both let you hold Fn and talk instead of type, in any app on your Mac. Here is how they differ on price, privacy and what else they can do.

Wispr Flow facts checked October 18, 2026 on Wispr Flow's own website. Plans and features change, so check theirs before you decide.

The short answer

Choose Glide if you dictate on a Mac and want it free with no word limit, with your speech turned into text on your Mac instead of in the cloud, and an assistant in the same app that can see your screen and answer out loud.

Choose Wispr Flow if you also dictate on Windows, iPhone or Android, need more than 25 languages, or your company requires SOC 2, ISO 27001 or HIPAA paperwork.

Where Glide is different

  • No word count. Dictation is free and unlimited on every Glide plan. Wispr Flow’s free plan stops at 2,000 words a week on a Mac, and unlimited dictation starts at $12 a month billed yearly.
  • Your voice stays on your Mac. Glide turns speech into text with a speech model that runs on your Mac. Wispr Flow says its transcription always happens in the cloud.
  • More than dictation. Hold Control and Option, ask about what is on your screen, and Glide answers out loud and points at what it means. Hand it a task and it finishes it in the background.

Where Wispr Flow is stronger

  • It goes where you type: Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android on one account. Glide is Mac only.
  • More languages: 100+, against Glide’s 25 European languages.
  • Writing extras: a personal dictionary that learns names and jargon, text snippets, per-app writing styles and a meeting notetaker.
  • Compliance: SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 and HIPAA with a signed agreement, which many company IT teams ask for.

Switching from Wispr Flow

Glide uses the same gesture, so there is nothing new to learn: hold Fn, speak, let go, and the text lands where your cursor is. Two things to know:

  • If macOS has Fn set to show emoji or start Apple’s dictation, set Press fn key to to Do Nothing in Keyboard settings. Glide shows you where.
  • On first launch Glide downloads its speech model, about 460 MB, so dictation can run on your Mac.
